NYC Blogger Babe
In case you don’t know much about who I am, I’ll give you a little scoop. I was born and raised in the Northwest suburbs of Illinois. I attended The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles for college. I happily worked in the garment industry for over 10 years in LA. Last October my boyfriend and I were on a trip to NYC and he asked me how I felt about living here for awhile, and I jumped at the chance. I mean who wouldn’t?!
So roughly 30 days later we moved.
We moved on December 8th to be exact. We arrived on a flight that got in around 10pm or so. You can imagine the amount of stress I was under with packing up an entire house, plus trying to pack our “necessities” for the next 14 or so days before ALL of our belongings arrived on the truck.
A friend of ours who lives in the same building as us had set up a blow up mattress and some pillows and blankets for us for our first night. This was the sweetest thing ever. We had scheduled our mattress to be delivered I think roughly 2 or 3 days after our arrival, so we knew it would be short term on the floor.
What I learned about moving this trip is to always guess that your items will be delivered late. Our mattress didn’t arrive for two weeks. OMG!
So not only were we in a new city, with new surroundings, we had only the items in our suitcases. No TV, nada.
Thank goodness I have a “glass half full” attitude, and can look back at that time and say it was like two college kids moving in together and have nothing organized. Because that’s the truth lol 😉
When we finally received our mattress we were so relieved and thankful to finally have a good nights rest.
On another note, our “boxes” were supposed to arrive before Christmas, so we would have all our belongings. Never happened. Nope. lol.
You have no idea the stress and frustration I was going through not having any furniture, any clothes (in freezing weather, mind you), and just feeling completely lost and defeated in a new city. They were late because of some winter blizzard and with Christmas and New Years, ugh……. our boxes finally came I think January 10th or some time around then. I was so elated to have my clothes and things that were familiar to me. It was like a piece of my home came back.
By then, my boyfriend were just completely exhausted and got some sort of really nasty virus. We were both sick for about 30 days. I’m not surprised we got ill. All the stress and all the new experiences. It was truly amazing. Finally now in March, I’m starting to feel a little more settled. Not totally, but better than before. I know where the grocery store is, and I know where they sell my favorite wine in our neighborhood. I have successfully taken the subway many times and I am excellent at hailing a cab. I love the city life here. It’s truly amazing. And I LOVE taking photos around the city!
Below are photos of a shoot I did in SoHo the other day!
More to come this week!
