Fall Runway Trends: Get the Look
FIDM Grad and fashion blogger Roclynn Nosek shows us the hottest fall trends from the runway, and where to get the look!
Summer is winding down. The balmy, sun soaked, bikini laden weekends are coming to a close. School is starting, and with the new season comes fall fashion! Here are the most sought after fall 2016 fashion trends.
Get down with your medieval side because the romantic renaissance woman is back—with everything from bell sleeves to lace embroidery. You might even be able to find your knight in shining armour with this romantic vibe in the air. Gucci, Chanel, and Lanvin are embracing this trend, and similar styles are popping up at H&M and Forever 21.
Statement chokers. Need I say more? Chokers are all the rage. Even if you’re wearing a turtleneck, layer on that big necklace to let everyone know you’ve arrived. There are no rules this year when it comes to the choker—wear it with a dress, wear it with jeans and a tunic. It will give you the edge necessary to dominate the fashion scene. The bigger the better, as seen at Lanvin, Loewe, and Balmain. You’ll love the looks at Urban Outfitters and UNIF.
Hoodies on everything—and they dominated at Vetements, Lacoste, and Alexander Wang. They are always such a cozy alternative to a hat. Wear your hoodie with leather pants and some slick heels and you are ready to go out. Or throw on a hoodie dress with some leggings, Uggs, and you are set for fall weekend adventures. Check out ASOS and Forever 21 for super cute styles.
During fashion week we saw a lot of one-arm and one-shoulder tops—especially at Herve Leger, Rodarte, and Chalayan. Baring a portion of the upper body reminds us that summer is not so far in the distant past, and the covered part gives the sign that winter is on the way. Wear a one-armed style under a sweater to school (with your statement choker, of course), and effortlessly transition from day to night by just removing the sweater! Don’t miss the styles at H&M and ASOS.
If you want to purchase a new jacket for the cooler months, look no further than your classic navy/military overcoat. Prada, Tommy Hilfiger, and Coach are all over it. The structured lines will give you authority and grace in any situation, with any outfit. It’s the jacket that flatters all figures. We’re loving the looks at H&M and Zara!
Velvet. It’s the fabric of the season—and Rochas, Alberta Ferreti, and Monse know it! Get ready to live in the softness. This ties into the romantic renaissance theme we mentioned before. Try a velvet sports jacket to school with jeans and flats. You’ll wonder why this trend hasn’t been around longer. A fabric to be worn throughout the coming seasons, for sure. Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 are great places to find velvety styles.
Pinstripes and plaids are the prints of the season. From schoolgirl jumpers to plaid and pinstripe suits. These two patterns are staples to any wardrobe. The patterns are reminiscent of boarding school uniforms. At Creatures of Comfort, Jason Wu, and Carolina Herrera, we are seeing the classic patterns deconstructed, pinned, tucked, and pleated to add movement to an otherwise structured pattern. Check out Boohoo.com and UNIF for similar looks.
And last but not least, fancy gloves. We saw them at Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte, and Prada, harkening back to the Golden Age of society, when women wore gloves adorned with pearls, rhinestones, and ruffles. It’s an elegance coming back into the world at a time it’s needed most. Not only do gloves keep your hands warm, they are endlessly stylish—a definite essential for fall. Don’t miss the gloves at Hot Topic and H&M!
