De La Commune | An Afternoon with Reese De Luca

Reese De Luca- A thoughtful designer, with his eye on emerging technologies in the fashion industry.

I had the pleasure of meeting the famous fashion designer Reese De Luca on his last trip to LA.  You may know Reeses’ work from his previous roles in these fashion houses:

Designer for William Rast (Justin Timberlake’s line of clothing)

Merchandiser for Juicy Couture

And that’s just the beginning.  Upon first meeting Reese, I have to say I was shocked at how incredibly humble he was.  A designer with such an incredible amount of experience.  He is truly in love with his craft, and the true definition of an artist.

Reese opened his company in 2013 out of his hometown in Montreal. “Rue de la Commune”  is a road in Old Montreal which is well used both by Montrealers and by tourists, since it is the home of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum and the Old Port of Montreal. The road follows the original shore of the Saint Lawrence River.

This is where Reese got the inspiration for the name of his company.  A tribute to the beautiful country he so adores.

Throughout my visit with the designer we laughed a lot, and he shared with me all of the advanced technology he uses to sketch his designs for each season.  De La Commune even has an app that you can download at the App Store. Reese takes a lot of time to source the fabrics that are used throughout his line.  He is always looking for the newest innovation of technology through fabric. For example; The Bamboo t-shirt, is actually knit from bamboo.  And, he is looking to implement leather made from pineapple into his future collections.

Reese is truly an innovator and De La Commune is his incubator.  The innovative line of androgynous clothing is all luxury and for everyone.  Once you put on these clothes, you will wonder how you ever lived without them.  I was lucky enough to receive 3 items:

Tigran Bamboo Tee

This t-shirt is so soft and so luxurious, there is a special oil wash that makes this top look so warm and cozy.  You won’t want to take it off.

“The curved back yoke adds a unique detail and sets it apart from a basic tee” – Reese

Scuba Jacket

This jacket has two front welt pockets, a hoodie, a thumb hole on the sleeve and quilted shoulders.

“A great lightweight jacket that has some edge to it” – Reese

and

Jasper Hybrid Jeans

These Jeans are a blend of denim and sweat pants. You can get the look of denim with all the comfort of luxurious sweats. Front Kangaroo pouch. Two hidden interior coin pockets, along with two back pockets! Truly a unique piece to have in your closet.

“Our signature fit. I love using the front pouch and I made sure to design two hidden inside pockets.” – Reese
